About

I have built my identity around being a problem solver. Mechanical, web, entrepreneurial — I am mostly interested in how to solve a thing in the most efficient way available.

I grew up in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, and came to Penn State for mechanical engineering. Most of what I know about building came from doing it badly first: retrofitting an injection-molding gantry into a laser cladding robot, shipping a campus app that never made money, and rebuilding the same website four times until it worked.

How I work

I like systems that keep running when nobody is watching them. Most of my recent work is some version of that idea: scrapers that maintain themselves, agents that verify their own output, businesses designed to operate without daily intervention.

I try to be honest about what does not work. Projects on this site include the parts that failed, because those are usually the parts worth reading.

Outside of work

I am an Eagle Scout and spent years staffing leadership training for the Boy Scouts, including directing a course that trained roughly 250 scouts. I camp, I play Magic: The Gathering and D&D, and I read more documentation than is probably healthy.
