Interior Diameter Laser Cladding Robot

Retrofitted a dead plastic injection molding gantry into a 4-axis CNC laser cladding machine.

This was the largest project I did for Nittany Laser Technologies. I was charged with retrofitting a plastic injection molder gantry machine into a machine that could be used for their proprietary interior diameter laser cladding process.

To accomplish this, I pored through documentation for the old robot, removed excess cables and sensors, and rewired all servos and limit switches. I created two custom control boxes where all of the logic and processing elements were stored, and wired everything together in a modular and forward-thinking fashion.

Once I was able to connect the servos to the AcornCNC software, I began the process of customizing the software to our needs and extensively testing and calibrating the machine. I also created several hardware components and brackets entirely from concept to CAD to CAM to CNC to installation as part of this project.
